Ross is the Principal of Progold Thoroughbreds, a bloodstock consultancy that specialises in selecting bloodstock. Progold Thoroughbreds has contacts internationally that can help find the right horse for your needs. |
Ross believes that every broodmare should have the opportunity to produce her best possible progeny. This can only come by thoroughly planning each mating, and having a goal as to what should be achieved in terms of type and aptitude. Each family has keys to what works best, but it takes proper planning to achieve these key results. Ross also is a realist. Most families have their limitations. If your mare's family best result in the last few generations is a win in a country race, then the chances of breeding a Champion are limited. It is more realistic to try and breed multiple winners from that family, than it is to punt on breeding a Champion through risky breeding strategies. Each mating plan is fully explained as to what the perceived strengths and weaknesses of the family are, and each suggested mating is detailed in length as to what is trying to be achieved balanced against the commercial appeal of a stallion. For more detail, feel free to contact Progold Thoroughbreds. |

| What many people don't realise | Overseas Clients | ||
|
The old saying horses for courses is so incredibly apt. It is easy to see a difference in breeding in NSW and breeding in other States. Why breed a horse that is suited to Brisbane racing, when you are going to race in Sydney? It can even come down to tracks. Chief De Beers won plenty at Doomben but not anywhere else. His pedigree tells you why he was suited there more than anywhere else. Ross can help you target the key areas of pedigrees to breed or buy the type that suits the racing that they will be doing. |
Progold Thoroughbreds has purchased a number of horses on behalf of International clients. Quite simply, many shuttle stallions in particular are often unsuited for local conditions. This represents a great opportunity for overseas purchasers to select bloodstock that will suit their conditions, while being perceived as lesser quality horses in Australia. Often it is a matter of identifying horses that were bred to suit dirt track racing, or other conditions. We welcome any approach by overseas buyers wishing to utilise our experience and knowledge. |
